Background of the Study
Reliable power supply is a crucial factor for economic growth, particularly in urban areas where businesses, industries, and public services depend on consistent electricity to operate efficiently. Jos South Local Government Area (LGA) in Plateau State, like many other regions in Nigeria, has experienced persistent power supply challenges that have hindered the growth of local businesses and industries. Frequent power outages, low voltage, and inadequate infrastructure are some of the issues that plague the power sector in the region (Khalid, 2023). These challenges not only affect the daily operations of businesses but also limit investment, disrupt manufacturing activities, and slow down overall economic progress.
This study aims to assess the impact of power supply challenges on economic growth in Jos South LGA. The research will investigate how inconsistent power supply affects different sectors, including manufacturing, retail, and services. It will also explore potential solutions and strategies for improving power supply and boosting economic growth in the region.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the efforts to improve the power supply in Nigeria, Jos South LGA continues to face significant challenges that affect economic development. The frequent power outages and unreliable electricity supply have had a detrimental effect on local businesses and industries, limiting their growth and contributing to low productivity. This study seeks to evaluate the extent of these power supply challenges and how they have impacted economic growth in the region.
